Oscar Help Please!

my boyfriends albino tiger oscar, looks like his gill is cut open on the right side. or like the flesh over the gill, and you can see all the meat inside.
there's nothing in the tank to cut him.

what could this be?

What size tank? It might also be to do with the white spot he had - maybe he's still attempting to flick and has harmed himself on the gravel/ornaments. Might help if you post pics

Some pics of the injury and the tank itself would be very help. oscars are very powerful fish, and can easily injure themselves - and their surroundings.
