I've had a little oscar (3 or so inches long) for a couple of weeks now, and I always thought oscars were very interactive with their owners... but not mine. Until today, he had just basically ignored me, and even hid from me when I tried to put my hand near the tank. A few moments ago, everything changed. I guess he has finally me out of his shell! :D
I put my finger in the tank, just to see what he'd do, and rather than swim away... he went right up and bit me! I tried it again, and he lept out of the water and nipped me before I even got my hand near the tank! Wonderful! I'm glad he's not going to be a scaredy cat all his life :)

I've never had an Oscar, is that what they do

Great to hear he is gaining confidence and can fight you off when you put that big scarey hand into his home  Go Oscar Go!!!! :hyper:

When I first got my Oscar, he was very shy as well. Now though, he recognises me and gets excited when I come up to the tank and as soon as he sees the red bag of Cichlid pellets I feed him, he shoots up to the surface and follows the bag until I put some pellets in for him.
Glad to see yours is starting to settle in. I've always read about how full of personality they are, but never experienced it until I got mine.!! :D

This is very strange RVM, my Oscar gets excited by MY RED BAG OF PELLETS?! (Twighlight zone me thinks!).

My Oscar took a while to settle in, its due to the fact het they are in a new place and obviously are a little disorientated from the move. Good to hear that yours has obviously settled in though!! :D

The Cichlid pellets I feed him come in a red bag, and when he sees that bag he knows he''s getting fed and comes up to the surface looking for food!!!

My oscar must be a duff one then  mine gets excited at the sight of the green bag of pellets. I'll have to have a quiet word with him about what colour bag of pellets are meant to excite him.

lol sounds like fun my fish bite me all the time never really hurts and I totally avoid hand feeding the guys that I have and know will do damage.

why would you discourage that? its awesome now just get some shrimp tails and you are set to hand feed your O!!!!

About shrip tails. I was looking for some for my dempsey. Are they just the tail that most people throw away when they eat the Shrimp? or is it the acaully body part. and dont tails have all the hard shells on them? :dunno:
