i got myself a oscar from a friend which was sick, also the oscar was lieing on its side has a big chuck out of his top fin and a white fluff on its side .. only about 2 inches
so any way
the oscar is in my hospital tank/ disus breeding tank...
he is now not lieing on the bottom and the white fluff has shrunk, but still really shy, and will not eat anything apart from my discus beefheart mix..

what to do next ??
what else do these guys eat?
i have not used any medice or treatment...

Well from my best judgement the white fluff is a fungal infection, so some anti-fungal chemicals, or even some pimafix and/or melafix would definitely help (the melafix would also help rebuild his fin). Also adding some salt to the water will help him out. I'd say the best thing to feed him would probably be some brine shrimp or oscar pellets, but if he's not accepting anything it might be hard to wean him onto those.

ok ill try it

ill try and get some pics

I would worry more about getting it to full health before messing around changing foods. They can be stubborn, starve it for a few days until it eventually gives in to a new food stuff. I'd only try that after it has recovered though.

Don't worry about it being shy right now, is the tank bare? I'd keep doing regular water changes as you've said the symptoms are going without any medication, see how it goes.

tank is bare yes, ive been doin 10% every 2 days,

What size is the tank it's in? I take it your taking any uneaten food out as well? What filter is on the tank? 10% every two days is fine, though I'd probably do 20% just to be safe, they are extremely messy fish.

tank is a 30 gallon tank, its my discus breeding tank... its got a fluval 305 external filter..

oscar is still alive still not eating thou...

update ......

so annoyed finally got him back to full health no more fungi on him also eating and swiming around not just sitting on the bottom , fins have all grown back

then i find him on the floor this morning as he has jumped out of the tank.........
