Hey as most of u no i have an oscar and JD but my biggest oscar * gold * 5" keeps fighting with my JD well not fighting but messing around they dont hurt eachother .. one day 1 backs of then the next day the other one backs off and so on .. just asking how can i get them to stop doing this?

They're being territorial and giving them enough space would help reduce it but it would never really stop becasue their borders are always going to meet.

radar pretty much said it. the only true way to keep them from acting out their territorial issues will be to divide them or get them each their own tank. so long as it isnt affecting either one from getting a good amount of food, and neither is getting the snot kicked out of them I wouldn't worry too much about it. but if torn fins start turning up I would seriously consider a divider.

no .. they eat together * there friends when feeding time * and no fins or anything is wrong with them, they dont hurt eachother .. they never go for anyother tank mates so im thinking they could like fighting with eachother .. am i right here?

They are pretty much sparring for territory, for now. As they get bigger it may get to the ripped fin & torn scale part. Listen to Juan, get a divider. Anyone keeping cichlids should have one handy.

BTW, what size tank are they in?

from my experience major tank moves can throw off the balance of things, though both fish would be considerably more happy in the 6 foot tank, as I have taken a peek at your profile and if that still holds true well I am sure that its been said about a million times already...... but even with a 6 footer have a divider ready to give them a time out.

I'll reiterate it one more time; cichlids are very territorial and aggressive, especially towards other cichlids. My JD won't allow anyone but my chocolate pleco he is with to be in the tank. I've tried putting other fish of equal size and tried mixing up the layout of the tank, but whatever I do, he will still harrass and badger who ever else is in the tank.... it is in their nature and no matter what you try, if they can get to eachother, they will have atleast the occational sparr to make sure the other fish still know that they control their part of the tank.

my 4ft is the grow out tank for these cichlids and as soon as i get my 6ft they will be in there and my others from my 2ft will be in the 2ft.

you seem to miss the point that a few people have now made.

a 6ft still isnt big enough for all those fish.

a 4ft definately isnt.

i kno its hard, id have like 5 oscars if i could but in the best interest of the fish i only have one so he has plenty of space and doesnt have to fight with anyone.
