'orrible Algae

Hi All, My wife and I are quite new to fish keeping and our tank has recently good covered in a very thick and sludgy dark greeny blue algae. We have tried doing a several third water changes and we have now removed all the plants, which had died, the rock and the log to try and clean them. but it still seems to be cominig back. We are now at a loss at what to do.

PLEASE HELP US!!!!!!!!

Is the tank ever in direct sunlight? If so, that's a big cause. My tank used to be in direct sunlight, and not only did it overheat, but algae grew everywhere, very quickly. Cleaning it was nearly pointless because it'd be back in a day or two.

I moved it, and now it's all good. Cleaned the algae off the glass using the magnetic cleaner thing, and a cloth, then washed the ornaments.

try switching the lights out for three days... solves my problem every time
