Ordering Shrimp

I want some amano shrimp but none of the local LFS have them. A couple of them said they could order them for me but I am a little reluctant. I have read that you should ask how long the LFS has had them before buying since they have a pretty high die off rate, similar ot otos. I would like to have 1 in my 2.5 gallon with the betta and 2 to 4 in the 29 gallon. How many should I have them order to hopefully end up with 3 to 5?

as a rule to follow, we were told 6 for every 100L (25 us gal) we got 13 for our 50us and we have recently spotted 8 (we thought they had all died/been eaten but it looks like they just hid really well for about 3 months!)

so in our tank, 2/3's have made it.

Are you ordering juvie or adult shrimp?

Also, IME, shrimp and bettas don't mix too well.

I'm not particular in that respect. Young shrimp would be fine. It's just that no one around here stocks them.
