I went into my LFS today and ordered 4 kribs...i wanted 2 male 2 female but the guy said they had no guarantee on the sexes unless i wanted to pay $85 a pair (ordering solo they are $2  ) but anyways, i was wondering if anyone has done this and what the sexes were...i dont want to end up with 4 females...also would there be any negative consequences in keeping any combo other than 2 male 2 female? Thanks for any help

unless your tank is bigger than 3ft you only want 1pr otherwise they will argue.
Why doesn't your shop normally carry kribensis? Most shops always have them and you simply go a pick a pr out of the tank.
If the supplier is good and your shops requests a pr of fish, the supplier will usually try to send a pr. At least that is what happens in Australia. We can order a pr or a couple of prs of fish, and if they are easily sexible, then the wholesaler will send us prs. We do it all the time with killifish and Apistogramma dwarf cichlids. The only time we don't get prs is when the supplier doesn't have males and females, ie: they only have males.

If you have too many males they will fight.

Idk why they dont have kribensis...they only have one tank set up for african cichlids...also my tank is 4 ft long...i hope i end up with a couple pairs, if not i can donate the excess male/female to the store and try again, after all they were only 2 bucks...

Thanks for the help!

the kribs were supposed to get here today, dude at LFS thought they could be a day late so i hope they come tomorrow...Also i was wondering if someone could help me start breeding em...i have a spare 10 gallon tank, would this be big enough? any thing i need to know would be much appreciated! :good: Thanks!

Yes its big enough( thats what she said!). Well, just barely big enough. Try putting alot of coconut halfs and caves and plants( real or plastic), turn up the temp to 82 degrees and do water changes with very cold water and feed well.

 glad its big enough :shifty: So once they actually do the deed i should just leave em in the tank right? what about after the fry hatch? Thanks for the reply!

grow quick the fry,my mails got two femails, one at each end of the tank. one has fry and he goes to the other end of the tank to see his other femail,i love these little fishes, they know how to take care of there young, nothing dare go near,,,kenny

Im still waiting on these bloody Kribs...i found a not so LFS that stock them regularly and instead of ordering them again through the original place, who gave me the wrong ones insisting they were what i wanted, i decided to wait til today, when he told me they would come in...i go in today for them and he goes, "nope, wont have em til friday"...im so sick of this, but its chill i guess, i hope they are worth the wait...

ok so i FINALLY got my 4 kirbs, the only problem is idk if i can sex them, they are only about 1" long...thre are two that follow each other everywhere, thinking they could be paired...all of their fins look the same, the dorsal is rounded at the end...are they even old enough to distinguish?
