Orange Fry

I have more fry, this time they're definately orange, of course I have no idea who had them but, they're orange, or orange tinted. Would they be from the orange molly or the orange platy? Or will I just have to wait and see?

Also, would 49 days between molly deliveries be right? I have dalmation molly fry too but I'm not sure if they're from the dalmation molly (who gave birth 49 days ago) or from the silver molly. They both still look like the side of a house!!!

well congaratulations on the colorful fry! :) I think you'll have to wait and see, though.

Are platy fry born coloured? Or are they like guppy fry, kind of transparent with a set of eyeballs?

yep the majority of platy are born with thier base colours ie orange, cream and marbled but white play fry come out as very clear in colour,

49days (7 weeks)does seem a little long for gestation for a molly but not by much, if you have the temp at anything less than 24 then that will more than likely be the reason as it slows down birthing and increases gestation period.

Tank temperature is steady at 26c. She may have been keeping her fins crossed :p or the fry may have been born a few days prior to me noticing them, but that's unlikely as I spend waaaaay too much time watching my fish!

That's a bit of a bugger that platy fry are born coloured! How much different to molly fry do they look? As in guppy and molly fry are easy to tell apart as guppy fry are much longer between the abdomen and tail than mollys. Is there a difference I can look for to tell if they're platy?

depends on the molly, but i *think* platy fry are generally shorter than molly fry, and there colour *might* be semi clear whereas mollies in my experience haev solid colour

platy fry are smaller than molly fry but not by much but enough to notice

They're orange, but definately not solid orange, more of a transparent orange, a few of them appear to have black tails, which is consistant with Mrs Platy as she is orange with black tail and fins. I'm starting to think that they may be platy. All of my molly fry have been a solid colour from day one, no transparency to them at all.

Thanks everyone :)

Lol, I spend way to much time watching my fish too! I only have guppies though. I have watched several guppy births, and I even watched one die:-( I've seem about everything happen in my tanks.

Oh, and one quick question, does anyone know where I can get a 10 gallon tank divider? I don't think think that the LFS has one but I'm gonna check anyway. I also looked at aquariumguys.com but there's plus S+H was a bit expencive. And I know walmartdoesn't have them eather. I know I'm probably not looking at anything too cheep but I was hopping for a little less than aquarium guys.

And congrats on the fry! I hope you find out soon what kind they are!

Wait until they get a bit bigger. Platies are stubbier than mollies. Mollies have longer bodies.
