Hi, I'm very new to this, and I have a quick question.
I have a canister filter (Dolphin C-700) and have a little problem operating it...
I put the IN hose inside the aquarium, the OUT hose has started shooting water at a very fast rate, now what exactly do I do?
Do I put that hose inside the aquarium? and if so, is the fast rate okay? it looks as if a fish goes next to it it'll fly it to the other side of the tank!

I'm a newbie in distress, help!

The OUT end definitely goes in the tank. If they weren't included, you can buy clips and attachments to hook it on the side and direct the flow. How big is your tank? I found the filter and it looks like it has a flow rate of about 200 gph. That would be about what you need to a tank up to 40 gallons. Most all cannister filters have a strong output and the fish generally learn and know not to swim past them. Of course, some fish like to play in the current.

Got it!
So ideally, the output should be high or low in the aquarium? the way this hose is built, I can't move it down in the tank so it is just below the surface.
I have a 25 gallon tank.

Thanks a lot for the quick answer, by the way, and sorry for not introducing myself. I had a small aquarium with a few goldfish for about a month now when I caught the bug and decided to move to a bigger aquarium and tropical fish.
So just yesterday I bought the aquarium, the canister filter, undergravel oxygen supply and a thermostat/meter.

I have read quite a bit lately about what sort of tropical fish go well with what other fish and about the tank cycle process etc.
So the canister filter question makes me look a bit more clueless than I am :p

What I plan to do is let the tank run with the filter on for the next few days and then get a few zebra danios (about 10) to cycle the tank with as I heard they are hardy fish.

You'd be better doing a fishless cycle rather than risking the lives of the fish. There's pinned topics on the forums about this to help you along.
Hugs,
P.
P.S:If you do decide to go ahead with using fish use less then 10 or you'll lose them within the week. :/
