once again i have a sick harlequin rasbora. it is the largest of the group and now has a red sore on what i would describe as the underside of its chest which is also swollen. the fish is swimming normally and eating well. this sore has appeared since yesterday. i would get a picture but it wont stay still long enough

water stats
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate approx 2 but is very low
pH 7.0
temp 24c

I dont seem to be having much luck with them recently. i lost two to sudden loss of fins which looked like fin rot but i have never seen it happen so quickly before. now this one is ill, i feel about ready to give up with harlequins :(
the tank currently has fin rot treatment in it, and the water has become cloudy. all other fish are fine and behaving and eating normally.
sorry to have to post in here again, i seem to be spending most my time in this section recently :(

I had a hengel's rasbora with a wound like this, it was still eating and swimming so I left it a couple of days and it soon healed up :) Hope yours does too.

do you think i should put the carbon filter back in just incase the fin rot treatment is affecting the bacteria? im concerned that the nitrate is so low, i know it shouldnt be high but its barely a reading above 0

Dont be concerned that the nitrate is low, but make sure you keep an eye on the ammonia and nitrite. When i use medication, i tend to reduce the amount of food that i feed to ensure that the filter isnt overloaded with waste - seems to work.

ok, thanx for the advice. i'll reduce the food and keep a close eye on the water. thanx for both your quick replys, you've put my mind at ease. hopefully the little fishy will heal on its own. theres not alot i can do until tuesday anyway as the shops are closed now and i working a 12hr shift tomorrow

You have a bacterial infection.
Is the sore pink or red with a circling of dead white skin around the edges.
