Opalines Hiding

I've had an opaline for a while now and it was always swimming about the tank, exploring everything. Recently i've installed a tetratec ex 1200 on top of my rena filstar xp 2. Since then the poor buggers always hiding!!!! I've got the outlet of the new filter (without the spraybar) pointing towards the centre of the tank, kicking out a decent flow. Most of the fish in my tank have found a new lease of life since the new filter, but my opaline just hides at the bottom of the tank away form the current.

Do they not like water flows??? I'm a bit worried as i don't want him to be stressed out or have a miserable life sitting at the bottom of the tank doing nothing.

From what I understand, I think waterflow may be your problem. Gouramis are naturally found in still or very slow moving waters along shorelines and in pools.

Ive got an Opaline Gourami too and had the same problem when i changed my filter, i didn't use the spray bar and had the flow rate set to max, until i changed the filter my Gourami would happily float around the top of the tank going between the plants and playing in the air wall, as soon as i got the new filter with a much stronger flow rate my Gourami went nowhere near the top of the tank, Ive reduced the flow rate a little and connected the spry bar leaving enough of a flow to oxygenate the water and for my Gourami to come back out of hiding and play at the top of the tank in the plants.

What i've done is kept the spray bar on my existing filter, then pointed the outlet nozzle on the new filter towards the nearest peice of glass. This disperses the water enough and still gives me good surface movement. He comes out more now which is good!!! It's a real nice fish and one of the nicest looking in my tank so i'm glad it's swimming about again.
