I guess I should have measured my tank but I didn't. Now I have 12" tall driftwood (with the slate thingy at the bottom) for my 10 or so inch tall tank. So I have two options-which would you do?

I can take off the slate piece and put it in there sideways. My only concern is if it doesn't stay sunk down I'll have to deal with that. Or I could even reattach the slate thing to the side of the wood and have it in there with that side down.

I can take off the slate thing, cut the bottom (with a new sawblade, wiped off-would that be safe enough??) and then reattach it to the slate thing.

Now that I read it, I think the top option would be easiest.

Also I asked this in another thread but will ask here too. Am I supposed to boil this? I don't think I have a big enough pan so can I pour boiling water over it? The driftwood was ordered from Big Al's if that makes a difference.

instead of boiling you could let it sit in some water for a couple of days :)
i also find scrubbing wood with one of those brush things you use to clean under your nails helps too.

Do what i did, and stick it int he bath and add the hot water to that to cover it. it got lots of the colour out the wood, and then i brushed it down.

and yeah id cut it down from the top.

Do you have a picture of the oversized driftwood in the tank?

I don't have it in the tank yet. It's kind of a Y shape piece. I'll take a pic of it later this afternoon.
