i must say ill never try to save a buck again.
At my trusty lfs I bought a heater- the cheapest one there for mt QT tank- its just a qt tank, right??
BIG mistake. Little did i know there is no safety feature whatsoever and after turning it on yesterday i fell asleep for about two hours, woke up, and the temp was over 115! degress Farignheit....bad bad.
i HAD 5 neons and one FT female guppy (who WAS about to deliver) in there and they were all laying at the bottom, lifeless
i immediately started adding crushed ice and when it started melting all but 2 neons started wiggling back to life, thankfully.
i got the temp down to lower 80's (i know u arent supposed to change temps that fast but i figured this was an exception) put in an air stone and cried for tourturing my fish
a few hours later i even put the guppy back in her usual tank to make up for it
Today the survivors seem to be doing ok and my question is : is it still possiable for some of them (or all) to die? and what other ill long term effects might this cause
They really shouldn't sell these types of heaters
I think that this ALSO proves that boiling fish is NOT a good way to euthanize because you can definately tell they were suffering-- I think if i remember correctly boiling is 120- They were definately"knocking on heavenns door" (no, im not a huge fan or anything but this euphanism pops in my head in this case)
