Hi all,

I just set up my 10-gallon and have my female betta to put in. For tankmates, she is going to have two more female bettas. How long should I wait before putting in more fish? I made the mistake of buying a second female today because she was so perky. She's floating around in her cup in my 2-gallon and I had planned to keep her there for a few days and then add her to the 10-gallon.

Is it better to return her and let my tank cycle with my one betta? I was worried that if I waited until it does cycle, the betta I have will become very territorial. . .however, if I do put the second one in, I'll have to get a third to lessen their picking on each other, right?

ETA - I just checked the ammonia level in the water the new betta has been sitting in and it's really high. I can't find the little card that comes with the API kit, but the color is a deep pea green color. The little cup the fish came in has blue colored water. Does this mean that the LFS added Quick Cure to the cup? I'm thinking of changing out the fish's water if I decide to return her. . .but only if it's Quick Cure that turned the water blue.

Your 2nd betta will probably be better off returned or added into the tank, leaving her in the cup she is producing ammonia herself by usual breathing, pooing etc,so unless you change the water very regulary she will be suffering ammonia poisoning,
Some lfs put fish in aloe vera solution or similar to prevent stress while in transit. :)

Thanks. I guess I'll return her today. After googling like crazy, I'm still getting conflicting info on how well females get along.
