I finally bought some new community fish. That's right, not new bettas!! I decided to try new species, wahookie! :hyper: First, I found some cories in a tank by themselves which was supposed to have tetras and a fire eel in it. I'd seen them a week ago and wanted them, so I'm glad they were still there. Reason I wanted them? I hadn't ever seen them before!! :kana: So I knew they were somethin special...

The girl working there was convinced they were "spotted" cories without the dark dorsal. I knew they weren't, but she wouldn't listen, so I got them for 3 bucks each, same price as the cories in the tank next door. Fine with me! ;)

Took awhile to ID them, and I've decided on "Elegant Cory" - C. Elegans. They're beautiful boys. I am now wishing I had got one of the "lighter" colored ones, those are girls. :X Maybe I'll go back... :shifty:

So anyways, they're shy right now, but here is one.

And then I bought some Priscella Tetras. They're beautiful, I'm very happy with them! I was choosing between several types. Anyone else have any? I can't find any information on them online.

One more, I love this shot. I'm very proud of it. :p If you've got tetras you know how fast they are. But anyways, little boy/gal looks so beautiful, I love their colors.

lol, something besides bettas

prisillas are basically more or less like other big/medium sized tetras. and are easy to take care of

The priscilla tetras are one of my favorite. Mine school very tightly and there are 10 of them I believe. They are pretty hearty in my opinion and I enjoy watching them display.

Try looking up pristella maxillaris. The one book of mine they are in calls them X-Ray fish. I had a few of them a few years back. Very hardy and very easy to keep.

Hi juliethegr8t :)

You were lucky to be able to get the C. Elegans. They are lovely little fish. I haven't seen them around here, but rumor has it that a New Jersey distributor has some.

With most corys the males and females look alike, but this species is one of the exceptions. I hope you do get some females too. If you do, will you try to breed them?

I'll be looking forward to seeing more pictures of them. :D

:D Great pictures juliethegr8t!

:) I have 4 Pristella tetras. They spawned last week, so now I have tiny tetra fry! It's very easy to tell my female apart from the males . . . she's the FAT one. Prisetlla tetras turned out to be the hardiest fish I ever owned, but they are (or at least mine are) very difficult to catch with a net!

:hyper: Your tetras spawned, Sasha?! Do you know how awesome that is?? :p I only hope I can get so lucky. I think the one closest to the camera in the group shot may be a gal, so we'll see. :shifty:

Inchworm - Thanks. :) I adore them already. I will definitely try breeding if I get a gal or two, but I gotta try my bronze's first.

Thanks everyone, I am very happy with my new additions so far!! :kana:

Great looking new fish Julie! :hyper:

Those Elegans Corys are beautiful. I've never seen them around here, but they are on my most-wanted Corys list.

And I never knew that Priscella Tetras looked that good! :hyper: Only one of the lfs around here sells them and their tanks suck...the fish always look so drab and washed out because of the horrible lighting, but yours look absolutely stunning! I may have to look into getting a few of those when I have more room. :D

Great pics!

 Thank you Bri, you're such a sweetie. I honestly didn't know about the Priscella Tetras either, I didn't have a clue! I'm not a huge tetra fan, but these guys are so pretty, I'm becoming more of a fan the more I watch them. :*) They didn't look so awesome in the store either, I mostly picked them because of the cool markings on their dorsals and anals. Then once they got happy and relaxed, those brilliant rainbow colors came out. I love them.
