My Onion plant is growing like crazy, so i trim it.
Now i am wondering if i the cuttings will take if i plant them? or do i have to wait for bulb dividion?

no, the cuttings will not take root, i think they're propagated by bulbs

you're lucky it's growing so well. my onion plant died within a couple of months

i need to cut the leaves on mine, they are so long they go to the surface and strech the length of the tank, but one of mine has grown a little baby onion bulb next to the main one, i was told to seperate it and it will grow on its own.

You can seperate "bulbils" when they are large enough and produce a new plant. You cannot make new plants from leaf cuttings, they lack a "growing point", (meristem).

In terrestrial bulb plants, you can sometimes induce a new bulblet to grow by making a small cut in the bulb, but i wouldn't try it unless i had more than one already just in case rot sets in instead.
