My betta tank is great, has never gone above the temperature it is set to.  But, my community tank's heater hasn't come on in about 2 weeks now since the heat started and it is consistently over the set temperature... usually 26-27c... occasionally 28c.  I figure that isn't too hot so I'm not worried about it at this point... but I was wondering something else.  My fish have been getting about 2-3 hours of light a day as I've been switching it off before the sun turns and heats the room (curtains closed the majority of the day as well).

Will it affect them getting so little light every day?

I've been doing the same during the hottest days. I don't think it will affect them as long as it doesn't continue for very long. That's just my personal opinion, though.

Hi my heaters have not come on either but struggling to keep heat down in tank with hatch open at the top and curtains shut and lights on just for a short time and all fish seem ok, just a tad worried about my panda cories as temp seems to be around 26 /27 mark . They seem ok at mo .
On the good front , it is great to be getting a summer this year yeyyyyy

I have had the heater off for a while now too, and now my community tank temp is still slightly above where I want it to be. Hopefully it will die down soon though others may be saying the oppisite! :p

It won't affect your fish, but if you have live plants they might suffer :/

We're all in the same boat, in the UK, atm though! My tanks are also only getting the lights on for a few hours, in the evenings;what else can you do?!

I have all live plants and so far they seem just fine (my betta tank plants less good but that is due to using salt for a bit to help heal his tail... I think they are starting to come back slowly).

I have been wanting to pick up amano shrimp but I am thinking maybe my tank water temperature is too hot for them at the moment.

My plants seem okay just now since they are all hardy :)
Oh dear, I have amano shrimp, I hope it's not to warm for them :S

I read online that they prefer temps around 24c... I've not had any before so no idea if they cope well with warmer.

My son has a couple and they're doing fine; his room is one of the hottest ones.

I haven't changed my 8hours a day lights on routine with the weather etc.
Just keeping my lids off and curtains closed.
Tanks are hitting 27 by sun down, and drop to 25 over night.

My tanks sit at 27c with 10 hours of light. Fish and plants are doing super. No issues.

My tank is sitting at 29/30 during the day and 27/28 at night. Lights are down to 3-4 hours a day, and lid open most of the time. Fish seem to be happy for now.

I've had some of my tank hitting 29C, great for my African oddballs (except my Chrysichthys ornatus), but not good for my rheophiles and temperates like my Ilyodon; Chaetostoma; Aboricthys etc.
