I put 6 spotted rasporas into my planted 10 gallon tank about a week ago (uncycled because i didnt know any better). I've been worried about ammonia getting too high but i just did a test with the Nutrifin liquid test kit, and it says i have zero ammonia. Is this normal? Am i done the cycle already?

Thanks in advance.

what are the nitrite and nitrate? and what test kit are you using as if you are just using the test strips there not supposed to be very accurate.

lol I should of read it properly just scan quickly, but still what are you're nitrite and nitrates levels?

Im a he :p

The nitrite is quite high, zero ammonia, and some nitrate.

then your tank is not cycled as you still have nitrite, nitrate is ok between 0 & 50ppm, since you have nitrite you should do a water change to lower it since you have fish in the tank.

The nitrite is quite high

Massive water change time!!!!!

You need to keep the ammonia and nitrIte levels right down below 0.25ppm.

Ok, thanks alot. I will do a water change ASAP.

Is having no ammonia a good indication that the cycle is coming along nicely?

Also on a side note, my fish are hiding in the back of the tank. They seem to be afraid of me. Is this due to water quality or something else? Maybe (after the cycle) a fish like a dwarf gourami will make them more comfortable as it is swimming around in the top region? I would like to feed these fish but they just hide when i come.

The presence of ammonia and nitrIte cause damage to and stress your fish.
Keep on with the water changes to get those levels down and at the moment don't bother thinking about getting a gourami - that is something for the future, maybe in about 6 months time when your tank has matured.

also you should of only put 2 fish in your tank if you were doing a fish in cycle that would be best for them, if you can take them back to the store and do a fishless cycle, as when I first started I had 4 shubunkins in my 60l as was clueless to cycling, but when I started researching i rehomed them in a pond after a month, and luckily when I got my water tested the tank had cycled with the 4 messy goldies.
