Hi all,
Well I had to tell you guys this as I hope it could be good news for us 'planters.'
Popped down to the Gold Fish Bowl (I'm spoilt living so close to this shop!) during lunch to get a few bits and pieces and got chatting to one of the guys (they know me far to well in there!) about plants and he asked me what ferts I was using now. Well I couldn't miss the opportunity to tell him about:
i) EI and how great it is and
ii) This forum (you guys
).
I didn't really get an opportunity to go into lots of detail about EI and what it does, but I did mention its algae beating capabilities and he seemed duly impressed, but said that he didn't know what EI was! I also added that there was to be an article in PFK re EI and showing some of Jim's tanks, and that when I saw it I'll let him know so he can have a read.
He’s not management but he does know his stuff and I hope that through him I might be able to get the shop staff at least talking about EI. It would be awesome if someone like the Gold Fish Bowl became something of a leader re EI and planted tanks (not to mention the money they would make from all the equipment they would sell!)
It's early days, but if anyone has any advice as to how to play this one I'd be more than happy to take it. I might be getting a little over excited but it's worth a try anyway. While I was in there I also saw their new 'planted' tank setup, with gravel substrate, no CO2 (that I could see) and just 2 light tubes! The tank must be 50-60 gl! I know they don’t know about EI but it seems a huge opportunity was missed here. Don’t get me wrong I love the Gold Fish Bowl (website here, have to plug it
) but knowing what I know now it could have been an awesome tank, mostly as they would be able to get stuff at wholesale prices so could have really gone ‘all out’!
George/Zig, would you mind if I showed them the pinned EI article and possibly the lighting, CO2 and algae ones? I don’t want to breach any copyright, etc?
By the by, they have recently stated to stock tropica plants, haven't asked about ordering stuff for me, but this is good news for anyone in the local area.
I got so excited writing this I let me tea go cold! I NEVER let my tea go cold!
Sam
PS Jim, sorry dude this places a bit more pressure on your already burdened shoulders, hope you don’t mind
