As i have decided to do a blackout and add seachem flourish excel daily to get rid of this bloomin hairy algae, i want to know, should i test the water during this time (as that would mean exposing the plants and algae to light) sort of peeking at it!! and should i disconnect the co2 kit?

Don't dose, test or feed anything. No light to get in at all. And yes disconnect the Co2.

I would add that a blackout only works on BGA, i doubt it'll work on thread or hair algae. Excel is better for that.

so just dose daily with excel? Is there anythin else i can do as its getting worse!

You can get a couple of algae eaters, shrimp (no loaches), ottos, plecs (only small BN as others may damge/ up root plants), snails (nerite in particular)

You should look at why you are getting it,
low or fluctuating co2
to much nutrients,
to much light,
not enough light and to much ntrients?

it may be too much nutrients and not enough light so have cut back on the nutrients, maybe unstable co2, i have ferplast energy co2, is there somehow to stablise this? maybe add another bottle? as i cant afford pressurised cannister at the moment.

thanks aaron

Add another bottle, diffuse it off same diffuser, change one at water change and one mid-week.
