I just moved my tanks out of state last week. I also bought a new filter. This morning I found an albono cory cat dead. The other fish look ok, but here are my parameters:

Nitrate: 40
Nitrite: .5 or less
hardness 250
alkalinity 80
ph about 7

I think the water here is harder than what they are used to. Does that matter? Thanks

What size tank are they in and does the tank have any established filter media? how many fish does it have in it and what was the ph in your tanks before you moved and what is it now? What is your ammonia stats? With nitrites being in the tank the tank is either cycling or going through a mini cycle...

Did you cycle the new filter before adding it to the cory tank? Corys don't do well with imature filters. I notices the nitrites were .5 and I would try to get this down by doing water changes until it settles. What is the Ammonia reading?

he is askin why his corry died not how many he should get.I hate people that just have to give u info u didnt ask for . u r definetly dyslexic germanshepard.... just to let you know incase you didnt already i mean we all have the internet to find these things out about the particular species we have

The 10 gallon was completely cycled for more than a year before I changed the filter. I had to change it, it simply broke. This could be the problem, but I don't do chemicals, so I should just do water changes?

I know corys do better in 3. I had 3 before this one died.

This cory was considerably smaller than the others...

The tank is cycling if you had to chuck away your old filter media or the bacteria died on it because the filter was turned off too long, corys are quite sensitive to ammonia since ammonia is most concentrated at the bottom of the tank so lots of regular water changes and/or gravel/sand vacs is a must to keep them healthy- try doing a 10-20% water change every day in the tank if you can. Do you know what type of cory it was? some are much less hardy than others...
