one of my julii cories died today and i cant think why. i thought i was doing so well with them too.
i checked the water params
ammonia 0ppm
nitrite 0ppm
nitrate 5ppm
pH 7
the temp was a little high, about 28-29c but thats because it was a hot day today.
could the cause of my fish's death been because it wasnt getting enough food? whenever i put food in the tank i never saw them eat it but they have lasted this long, over two weeks. they have all been very active and healthy looking.
i havent added anything to the water apart from Melafix but that was because one of the cories didnt have much of a tail (its starting to grow back now).
all my other fish are fine.
anyone have any suggestions to why my cory died? i had panda cories before these ones and they unfortunately didnt survive but i now understand that they are sensitive to water changes or something. i was told by my lfs that juliis are more hardy.

2 weeks isn't very long, I know some fish can survive that amount of time without being fed. So that might be your solution...

just want to add that i hope you use food for the cory's themselves and not just settle for flakes that sink :) i feed mine blood worms, hikari sinking wafers, hikari algae wafers and recently i really do not know why but they have acquired a taste for cucumbers.... :)

My cories go bananas over those sinking shrimp pellets. :hyper: They sit on them and hide them with their fins so the guppies can't find them. I admit I've never tried not feeding them for two weeks. Was that the problem? Mine get a nibble every day, just not tons.

Question: raw or cooked cucumber?

kenneth_kpe i have tried putting sinking food in the tank for them but the neons and bristlenose always get to it first and then everyone fights over it :p . i have tried Hikari algae wafers and the cories werent interested. my lfs recommended these other sinking pellet things designed for catfish but they havent really taken an interest in them either. i was going to get shrimp pellets but my lfs had sold out. i have also tried frozen bloodworm, flake and cucumber but they werent interested in that either. i tried feeding at night but the neons ate it even though they were sleeping
maybe i just have very fussy cories

btw the other three cories are still alive and kicking :)
