Hi all

Popped into one the five LFS' we have within 10 miles today, and i'm sad to say its my last visit to it

Had called in during the week for a nose on the way to work They had five male VT Betta's of varying colour. Today we observed one of the betta's being terrorised by a large shoal of x-ray tetras and a number of Penguins. He was flaring virtually non stop and was being nipped quite badly. I told the shop keeper who did come and look and decided to move him in with some glow lights.

Of the five i saw in the week, this one was being terrorised, one looked ok, one was lying dead (all fins gone) in a tank of guppies (2 dead guppies also), one was lying on its side virtually dead with no fins, and the other was gone.

Its not a big Lfs and they dont have the number of tanks that the others do, so i cant see any excuse for letting fish suffer like this. Its seems though everytime i've been in one of the staff is always sorting out the marine rock etc I get the impression that freshwater tropicals take 2nd place to the marines.

I have to say that the fish in that "large pet store chain" look far more healthy than these did at an independant!!

Cheers

Awwww that would have sent me on a rescue mission, poor things :(

I know what you mean, I thought the same but nowhere to put them at present. :(

I suppose though, if LFS' still shift stock thats not cared for they will continue to get them in. We see a similar thing in the dog world, people go to see some puppies and have one because they look awful and not cared for. This just encourages the breeder to have more and make more money. Its a vicious circle unfortunately

report him to the rspca, they shouldnt be allowed to get away with it, it wouldnt be allowed if it was a yorkshire terrier being brutalised

thank god my lfs is amazing, and i hate it ,that a shop owner put a customer in your position where you are left feeling awful

and i certainly think you are right not to go back there,

sorry you had to go thru that, i hope you feel better soon

Unfortuanately it does go on. There are puppy farms all over the country breeding indiscriminately using below par dogs and bitches to line their pockets. On the doggy forums there are always stories of people buying a pup because they felt sorry for it. These pups can have serious problems which require lots of vet visits, and the pup could have cost in excess of £300 - £400!!

The LFS in question is the newest one in the area and luckily we have four more within 20 mins of the house :good:
