sad news... i lost one of my balloon blue rams today... not sure why though. There is trace nitrite 0.1ppm which a 25% water change should sort that out. the rest of the readings are fine, ammonia 0 nitrate is less then 5 ppm. could it be stress that killed it... :(

Rams are notoriously sensitive to water conditions; any amount of nitrite could affect them.

Nitrite also indicates that something is wrong with your biological filtration somewhere; did you add all the rams at once? You could have overloaded your filter bacteria and they'll take a few days to expand to deal with the extra waste being produced.

i did add them all at once... thought 6 rams in a 300l tank wouldnt have overloaded the filter.... This is the nitrite reading it looks darker on the pic but i read it as 0.1.... (unfortunately since my first post i have lost another one) big water change in on the cards

What are your stats in regards to temperature, pH, and hardness as well?

German Blue Rams, balloon variety or not, are fragile little guys. They like the pH 7 or below, soft water, and around 82F.

+1 on the nitrites being too high for them. Do a good big water change and take care of that.

Not sure on the hardness of our water dont have a test kit for it but I know it is fairly hard. Ph is about 7.2 and the temp is 82. Ill sort the nitrite out tonight. This is the only down side to a large tank. Lots of water...

did a 50% water change and tested again and still the same value does that mean same tomorrow?/
