Hi there
Just needed some advice on what to add to my tank, i have relocated all my livebearers into one tank, which has left the Angel Fish on its own, what would be best to add to this tank now?

As i have a livebearer tank already set up, i would like to be a bit more adventurous this time, with some more colourful fish (not dyed, thats so cruel) i've been advised to add Kribensis or Gouramis?? what do you think ? Somebody advised parrot fish, but i've since been told thats a real bad thing to add as their mouths will prevent them from defending themselves.

I would really like some ideas, and perhaps some pics if you have any. my tank dimensions are 31.5" long, 14" Width, and 16" height. I'm also in the UK

Thanks in advance
Regards
Miranda

Gouramis would be nice. Kribs, if they bred could cause problems from the aggression. Apistos are great little Dwarf Cichlids. Colourful and interesting to watch. Maybe try some Congo Tetras, they don't look colourful in the shops but once at home in a good, healthy tank they will look great. They are one of the larger Tetras and will be fine with Angels.

You're tank's 30 gallons BTW.

First off, I'd add another angel. Then there are a number of gouramies that would work but I'd reccomend you stick with gouramies that don't swim near the top/middle of the tank that much as the tank's relatively small and the angels may fight with them.

Perhaps consider croaking gouramies (Trichopsis vittatus): http://www.igl-home.de/trichopsis.jpg They do well in groups of 3 or more (prefferably with 2 or more females per male), are quite hardy and peaceful and will stay towards the middle-lower parts of the tank. They should stay out of the angels' way.

As far as kribs go, I wouldn't go for that combination in a 30 gallon (in something larger, perhaps).

Some other interesting fish you could try are: dwarf chain loaches (in a small group), cory catfish (also in a group), cherry barbs (1 male, 2 female trio), a school of clown rasboras or checker barbs, or a trio (1 male, 2 females) of american-flag fish (a killifish - easy to breed and colorful). Obviously, not all at once - that would be far too much :p

edit: You could also try some thread-fin rainbowfish (in a school) or one of the other medium-size/small rainbowfish species. Dwarf/neon rainbows are another good one and very colorful.
