What is the min size tank that you could keep a ray in and what sort of fish if any could you have with it?

Thank you all :D

which type of ray are you talking about?
If freshater, i suggest swinging around the Oddballs forum and take alook at the pinned topics :)

For freshwater the absolute minimum is going to be a 4x2x2 but really youw ant at least 5x2.5 as a foot print and the larger the better.

That is for the smaller rays that will get a disc size of around 12" (I recall reading somewhere that there is a species of ray that only grows to 8" but you will almost never see that in the trade).

Be wary of common names such as teacup as this is an lfs trick for any young ray.

AS for Saltwater...best post in the bottom third of the site, I'm sure some of them would know.

Yeah, I remember reading that the smallest FW ray gets to 12'' disk size, and luckilly the most common ones are the smallest.

Actually the most commonly seen rays which are Potamotrygon reticulata and Potamotrygon hysterix will both attain a disc size of 16" if cared for properly, the other commonly seen species such as Potamotrygon motoro and Potamotrygon leopoldi will get to around 20".

As said the minimum sized tank you should be looking at to house a ray for life is a 5x2x2 and prefferably bigger with a long wide tank being required rather than a tall one.
As for tankmates there are many combinations you could try, they work well with most non aggressive medium-large fish. Fish to avoid are large Characins, aggressive Cichlids and sucker mouthed catfishes (plecs etc).
