... I have one fry alive out of the 4 or 5 times I've tried spawning, they always get eaten by papa fish..

But this time I think it will be a sucess! My pair have been wrapping for about two hours now.. and I've estimated about 200 in the bubble nest... They're still going, but I think my boy is getting exhausted... Should I stop them?

I'd leave them till they are finished. She will rapidly move away when she's done.

[ : They just stopped. And I took her out and transferred her out to her own heated and cycled 5 GALLON

What do I do if... I think he's eating the eggs : /
There is not as many as there were yesterday!

If you absolutely have to, (ie if he is egg eating) you can hatch the eggs away from the father... you have to put them in a shallow (1 inch of water) dish and float them in a heated tank. The reason they have to be kept close to the surface is so they can fill their swim bladders, and when there's no attentive father to keep them in the nest the alternative is VERY shallow water. You'll still lose quite a few this way but you'll probably get about a 75% hatch rate.

We generally leave the male too it. The times that we've tub hatched has usually been when the male is not keeping the eggs in the nest. It might be that he has moved some of the eggs. Egg eating is something that they can sometimes grow out of with more experience. I would let nature take it's course and see if any do hatch. If not then try again in a few weeks time.

Thanks a ton netty and laurafrog!!! : D
I have my fingers crossed for this. I feel as if I'm a disappointment to my father, since I've tried spawning 5 times now.. and there's one 1 fry still alive.

Don't worry too much about it. We've been pretty lucky with most of our spawns but some have resulted in nothing or only one or two fry. At the moment we have one of 80+, one of 11 and one of 3.

Just take your time and be patient......these guys can be quite temperamental at times but once you get the right pair and the right conditions it'll go like clockwork.

We've also found that our Pks have spawned much better than the long finned ones so maybe try that if you have any :good:

My dad has breeds plakats... And some gorgeous ones. but I haven't talked to him in about a month.

But once he gets back.. I'll be sure to steal some from him!!
