I got HUGE algea growth in my tank.
I really dun know (and not interested) in specific name of this algae. It's just typical green algae.

Before, i would just dump in a culture of daphnia and they would wipe out algae within days. But ever since i increased number of my fish, daphnia kinda vanished as soon as i put them in -__-

So what do u guys do to control algae?
That 'couple of days with no light' doesn't really work for me.

increasing the number of fish will cause an increase in nitrogen in the tank. This is plant/algae food.

You can either do more regular water changes to keep it down, or put quick growing plants in which use it before the algae can.

Depending on which type of algae it is, there maybe other things you can do. Greenwater algae can be combated using a UV sterilizer.

I know you dont want to get 'into' algae... but read this page. If you find your algae then you know what some of the potential issues are, then we can help a little better.

You need to find the trace course of your algae, ie too much light, overfeeding etc and remedy that. Whilst removing the algae will work short time, it will, as you have already discovered, keep coming back.

I recomend reading George's pinned article on Algae, very useful

good Luck
