i was about to turn my fishies light off and go to bed when i noticed one of my platys hiding in one of my ornaments.

seeing as though a fish had died of swim bladder last night, i was concerned that she might have it too......

WHEN I SAW A LITTLE BABY COME OUT OF HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

total suprise! i didnt even think she was pregnant as she always looked pretty fat. anyway....i let her be while keeping an eye on her and having my net ready to catch any babies before the other fish got them (the first baby i saw come out was eaten within 2 seconds of its life  )

so anyway....nothing was coming out.....so i decided to catch her and put her in a breeding net......bad idea i know now!!!!!!

i caught her fairly quickly, but now im scared that i have stressed her too much and she is going to miscarry or abort the rest of the babies (she is still real fat)
she acts like shes wants to give birth, but nothing comes out? you know when their still for a bit and then swim frantically then a baby comes out?

is she going to die if she doesnt have the babies?

i would simply leave her in the breeding net over night, once the lights out she should calm down and wil be more relaxed to give birth to the rest of the fry,
do you have any small plant stems that you could cut off and pop into the net for the platy to hide under to feel more secure, ?

thanks for your quick response davo!

yeah thats what ive already done, turned the light off and leave her alone. i also broke off some plant and put it in there but she doesnt really seem to be hiding there anyway.

i just hope she doesnt eat all the fry by morning!

I HAVE FRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :shout: :shout: :shout:

there is about 10-15 of them :D

mum looks like she got pretty stressed about it all and has gone and fungussed (i know it isnt a word) herself up, soive put her in a seperate treated tank for now.
it isnt overly bad yet, just a bit of white around her mouth with a very little fly away bit.

ive seen one of my mollies face almost fall off coz of this fungus disease! but i treated her and she is on her way to recovery now, so i have high hopes that mum will pull through :)

thanks! im very excited! and a little stressed myself now, because i have the following already....

1 x 3 month old platy ( i think he is still too small to put in the community tank because my gourami's are pretty big and i dont want them to attack them by trying to fit him in their mouths)

1 x 1 month old white molly

can i put them all together in the same net/tank?

my 3 month platy fry started eating my newborn platy fry so i had to seperate them.

congratulations on your first 10-15, should be upto 100 in no time :good:
