Hi Zoe,

Heres a better way to do it so you don't have to mess about with drops.

25 gallons = 113.75 litres = 113,750ml

You want to raise ammonia to say 5ppm (parts per million) so

113,750ml / 1,000,000 x 5 = 0.56875ml of pure ammonia

Your solution is only 9.5% ammonia so

0.56875ml /9.5 x 100 = 6ml of your solution will raise 113.75 litres of water to 5ppm of ammonia.

right used a urine sample bottle lol. stole some from doctors to do water tests. ammonia high, but not sure how high as lost result card eeeeeek.

Get someone to post a pic of a colour chart for you? What test are you using?

oh oh. i put 25ml in Api Liquid. its hreener than green its such a dark green cant see through tube

That means if your tank is 113.75 litres, your ammonia level is 5 / 6 x 25 = 20.8ppm.

I dont think the tank will cycle with that much ammonia. I say do a big water change and start again.

arghhhhhhhhhh. right i am well stressed now. i have basically done 1 ml per gallon. thought i was doing it right lol

do u think tank will be ok till 2moro as aint got no energy to do water changes ?

It wont do any harm leaving it til tomorrow, it just wont start cycling, thats all.

Just for info, if too much ammonia is present, it sterilises the tank (and filter) and actually stops the bacteria from growing. I believe anything up to about 8ppm is probably ok.

The only problem i can think of is i am not sure if the plants will stand the amount of ammonia you have. You'll need the plant guys for that one. It might be fine, i dont know.

right had to do a WC. ammonia dropped its dark green but can see through tube now. not sure what result is as still cant find result card

Does the bottle say pure ammonia or a certain percentage of ammonia?

Mine says 9.5% so I need to put in 10x more. (Mines from Boots though.)

The guideline I use is 5 drops 100% ammonia raises 10 gallons to 5ppm.
So that's 50 drops for my 35L (9-10g.)

Also try not to go anywhere near it when it's open, I do it from arms length and don't have to endure the fowl smell, well more then a smell more like seawater going up your nose and into your mouth but worse.

Try not to go near it. i nearly blew my head off pmsl. I took a big sniff

everyone at shop was in hysterics

the stuff i have is 100% ammonia i have do not sniff on top of the jar so what do peeps do open the jar and sniff quite funny watching them after they get a wiff but on a serious note it could kill them
