Well, Im new to the hobby and when i started a few months ago i set a goal to get a pair of kribs to breed. I never expected the fry this soon though! I knew they had eggs in their cave but being young parents I totally expected them to eat their first few sets of eggs! I returned home today to find the father guarding a cloud of prolly 50 kribs with the mother swiming around keeping the serpae tetras in line. I plan to keep the fry in with their parents untill they swim around on their own. I have done my research but would love any first hand experience tips you could throw at me. I see that the parents are already gathering up flake in their mouths and spitting it at the fry and I plan on getting some live newly hatched brine shrimp. Should i go any further or is this sufficient? Any advice about ANYTHING would be more than welcome. Thanks,

Sean Welsh

your lucky, ive had 2 females and 1 male in my tank for just over 3 weeks now, and all they have been doing is chasing each other, no signes of spawning :/

i suggest you move the fry to their own tank, because more than likely the parents will eat the fry, so move the fry to a sepperate tank, to be safe

good luck

i breed kribs all the time and the fry will be fine with them. the adults make very good parents. mine fed well on crushed flake in my community tank and when bigger ate frozon foods.
good luck with them and be ready to accept many more fry in the future cause once the kribs get settled in to a breeding pattern you will be getting more fry every 2 to 3 months.

I am one of the had no luck with kribs.I have had 3 lots of fry off them and they are great parents till about the 2 week stage then eat them.I know they have eggs again so i am going to take the parents out this time to see if i can rear some

I'd say leave them in. They may get eaten, but may well not (mine never did) - but catching them all will upset adults and fry - and as you've already seen the parental behaviour of kribs is great to watch

You could also get some grindal worms for the fry - they'd like that, and will grow that bit quicker

Only 2 weeks after owning two small kribs I have had them breed I had them in a 75 gallon problem is they are great parents but to small toi fight off there bigger fry eaters I moved the eggs to a 7 gallon with the parents then removed the dad and the mum has cared for them for around 2 weeks I have about 30 fry or so and they are living off crushed flake and algae (there mum keeps leading them over to algae spots to munch on).

Do not underestimate kribs parenting...the mum bit me when I was moving a shell in the 7 gallon to see if the fry were there.....luckily she is still a small krib

Im an avid fan of Kribs, they are imo some of the best fish to keep in a tank, amazing fish to watch, so intelligent aswell :)

just wait till the first fry makes a dash for the main tank and see the parent sheparding it bck to the safe area, fantastic

Ps

Sean youre not in the Glasgow area are you, and want rid of some of the Kribs when they get a tad older, ive got a 125 Juwel sitting cycling at the minute with nowt in it and im sorely tempted to get some more Kribs in this tank :)

It's good to hear your responses, I am fully enjoying watching the parenting of the kribs... they are so interesting.
