AAAAHHHHH! I'm so excited! I just to a look into my Multi fish tank and saw a free swimming fry. After jumping up and down for joy and squealing like a little girl, and getting some crazy looks from my husband, I took a look in again to make sure my eyes weren't deceiving me and sure enough there were TWO. My hubby is not in to fish what so ever, so I had to jump on here and boast my happiness to you all who will appreciate the goal that I have met. Of course, now I'm quite worried about the fry and will be surfing the net for the rest of the evening for the appropriate measures to take.

Funny thing enough, today I decided that I would put a small pot into the tank as a cave, because I realized that the shells my multis have are too small for both the female and male to fit into. But I think what happened is my female dug a ditch in between two slate slabs I have on the bottom of the tank, and this is where she and the male probably ended up mating. I so wish I had a decent camera to take pictures with...

Yippee!

I'm so jealous but very happy for you congratulations, well done, I had to rearrange my tank YET AGAIN because the Caudopunctatus was still being pushy, he has is own wee section of the tank and all the Mulitis have about 75%+ , fingers crossed when they get older and maybe get some peace, pics please , pice please :good: :good: :good:
:fish:

Thank you so much. As for your fellows, I'm glad that they are able to hold their own now, after all you were mainly in to the Multis. I will try and take some pics later on this evening, which means I'll have to figure out how to post them, no promises on them being good shots, and I HIGHLY doubt I'll be able to focus in enough to get pics of the fry, lol, oh my crappy camera, it's seen a good life though, just needs to be replaced.

Thanx again.

K, so I wasn't able to focus on the fry, but they're pretty skittish anyhow, gee that sounds an awful lot like their father! Yes, I know that they're just acting natural, but seriously, the male is supposed to be the protector, but he's always the first one to swim into a shell and the last one to come out! Anyway, here are just some pics of the tank in general. The male should be pretty easy to spot in all of them, he's the biggest one towards the middle, in the back with the amethyst (I think he's shackin up with the female that lives over there ;) ). The rest are, of course, the females, the proud mummy is the tiny one on the far right, who's blurred in EVERY shot, haha. Enjoy my mediocre pics.

Aww, thanx. Yah, you'll have to forgive the clay pot, as apparently they don't need a bigger space for breeding :D The tank is a 10 or 12 gallon clear seal bowfront, bought it at Pets at Home. My multis do just fine in it, they've divided the space pretty evenly. If you do get a smaller tank for your multis and you have the space, I would definitely go for a short/long tank, as my multis only hang out 5-6 inches above their shells. But I like the way you're tank's set up, especially the rock mound. I'm surprised you're multis haven't started digging craters around their shells!

They have done no digging since I changed the tank, there was one little guy in the back corner who dug all under the rocks , since setting up the big mound (which I hate) they all hang about up near the top and mid levels, to think I was worrying about getting dithers.

Just thought I'd post a little update, no pics though. Today I sat in front of the tank where the momma and fry have been hanging out, and I think I came up with a final count number: 6! At first I thought I only had three or four, but after feeding some liquid fry food today, the fry were popping in and out of their homes to grab some food. They're unbelievably hard to see, not just because they are so small, but because they blend into the sand and shells so well. Honestly, the only way I found the first one was by seeing the bright blue eyes that multis have. I can't see much of their body as it is white, but it just looks like a head with huge eyes and a spear shaped tail. They don't swim so much, they mostly seem to just dart from one resting place to another. This is the first time that I've had fry before some this is whole new learning experience and I'm crossing my fingers that I do not fudge it all up!

A friend of mine is coming back from vacation in a few days so I'll be asking her if I can borrow her camera so I can, hopefully, get some shots of the fry and I'd like to start a journal, that is if she allows me to borrow her camera until I get my own.

I was finally able to get a shot of some fry today, although it was with my camera and the picture quality is not very good at all, but you can (hopefully) make out a couple of fry in between the shells resting on the purple slate bit. There is one facing the camera just on the slate/sand line and another facing away from the camera so it sort of looks like a grey pebble. I'm guesstimating that the fry are about a half a centimeter in size. Will probably start a journal soon.

It's official that I need a new camera, as I dropped mine on the kitchen floor by accident, and cracked the display screen. I can still take pics, but I have a couple of cracks in my way. Welp, maybe I'll head to the store tomorrow and see what they have in stock.

Awe, cute, can just make out wee blob shape and big blue eyes, you must be so proud, it's official I'm still jealous lol well done :good:
