I've only got 1 of my Java Fern attached to my bogwood!!! ... and I'm thinking that it's too tight too so will have to be done again :(

How the hell do you do it?

I'm using black cotton ... don't have any elastic bands or fishing line. I took the big piece of wood out as I thought it would be easier to attach them like this but boy am I struggling!!

The Java Fern came in bunches of 4-5 stems, wrapped then leaded ... I am taking this off then tying the stems together lightly then trying to attach to parts of the wood but I can't get it tight enough, and the plant just flops about :(

Ive had a little read around and some people have said they've used staples to hold them on ... is this safe? or even zip ties?

Please someone help me out please?

Oh I also ordered some Riccia ... looks very messy ... haven't even started with that yet :p

Your java fern should be a horizontal rhizome, with leaves running vertically up from it. You want to lay the rhizome fairly flat on the driftwood, and then tie the cotton over this (between the leaves). It will be difficult to get it to hold tight without constricting the rhizome too much, but don't forget that when underwater it will hold itself upright much better, and better still once the roots begin to take hold.

Thanks for your reply ... my Java Fern didn't come on a horizontal rhizome  they were bunched up in lots of 5-6 stems ... only one of these stems per bunch had a rhizome ... all the others no roots at all, just stems??

I take it they're not going to do too well as just stems?

Replying to myself lol ...

I've been having a little read about my Java Fern being just stems and it seems like that's fine ... eventually they will grow roots?

Either way, I've attached them in groups of 4-5 stems all over the back of my bogwood with staples ... so much easier than cotton!!

Here's hoping they will do well :good:

LOL, that should hold them, would take them out once the roots begin to attach....put up a picture so i can see...they are quick root grwoers so should attach soon..

I'll post a pic later ... have no way to transfer it over to pc at the minute ... no idea where my bluetooth dongle is :p

Need my other plants to come ... looking bare :(
