Hey All,

played around about 12 years ago with two tanks, lost one and the other one was donated.
Currently in the process of getting a 110l tank and getting back into it, only serious this time.
Things seem to have changed a lot in the last 10 years or so, or I never payed enough attention then!
Anywho, lotsa reading to catch up on, and lotsa questions will pop up no doubt.

thanks, I'll start off with a question right away then :)

Planning my tank i'm looking at backgrounds, however I want quite a dark background to emphasize shine neons etc
Never really got along with a stick on background.

can I paint the back of my tank? Something black glossy/cobalt blue glossy perhaps?
Do i need special paint if so?

rather do all this now if possible then when it's full of water ;)

*edit - speeeling

Welcome to the forum!

painting the back of the tank is fine. You don't need any specialized paint, so long as none of it gets on the inside glass wall which then comes in contact with the water.

Someone on here (ColdCazzie) used motorcycle engine paint (if I remember correctly), so really anything is fine.

Is anybody else here old enough to remember the Crystal Craze paint they used to sell for back of tanks? You painted it on the back of your (metal framed) tank and it dried looking like colored frost crystals. It smelled horrible when wet! Pet stores used to have big racks of this stuff back in the 1960's.

I remember! My father and uncle used the stuff. As a matter of fact, I still have a metal framed 5 gallon tank with it on somewhere in the basement or attic.

Wow! And my wife says I hang on to too much old stuff! I'm with you though. I could never toss away a tank. I would probably have that tank set up if I had it.

If I could find it, I'd set it up! I'm looking for another 5 gallon for a betta.
And, yes, I'm a packrat!

LOL! Just the fact that you can't find it speaks volumes! B-)
