I have little round algae spots on my front glass. i think it might be algae that are "dead" cause it's kind of "dried" and very hard to get off. My pleco tries to suck it off but he can't do it either.

I'm wondering how to get this stuff off. I have a few little scratches on the inside glass, so i have to be careful with those magnet scrapers, cause if it gets in the groove of one of those little scratches it can make the scratch longer.

just looking for a way to get this off. i guess just aggressive scrubbing with a really soft scrubbing tool i guess?

anyone have any ideas, or have you had this kinda old stubborn algae?

I think you are talking about spot algae. I have found the only way to remove it is with a little elbow grease :flex: and a soft (Aquarium Pharmaceuticals) scrubbing pad since both of my tanks are made of acrylic.

I have used flat razor blades to scrape it off my glass tanks before. Its not my preference for cleaning but sometimes its amazingly hard to get off the glass. Plecos are not perfect cleaning fish, no fish will keep the tank completely clean.

I buy a square of coarse filter wool, rinse it, cut off a bit and use that to get off the algae. That way I know it is safe for fish! :)

I use a plastic credit card style card given to me by a local petco. It works GREAT for my cyanobacteria problem but spot algae is an entirely different animal... I think it would still work you just might have to put a little more behind it. I thought about using a razor blade but it just made me nervous. Exposed metal in a fishtank not to mention scraping against the glass just bothers me for some reason. Oh btw I would be careful of the scratch off silver stuff on some cards...Not sure what it is but I wouldn't bet on it being fish safe.
