Old Food?

A friend gave me some Omega One shrimp pellets he didn't need anymore. He didn't tell me how old they are but had not had fish for quite some time. #'s on bottom of can are 024F. Should I assume it means April, 2002? Still good? No other stampings on can. Let me know what you think.

Was it air tight? If so then it should be fine.

Was definately opened. Not much used at all. When I opened it, it felt like it was vacuum packed. I was surprised to see it used. This might sound stupid but would it smell bad if it was bad? Smells like the other shrimp food, so.......?
