My 18 month old male cacatuoides has in recent weeks been acting strange. He is not eating as much, has gone dark grey and spends most of his time now towards the top of the tank rather than chasing his partner around as he used to.water parameters are spot on. No new fish have been added in months. I continue with my weekly water changes, so what's hot him bothered?

I read somewhere that in the wild they do not live very long. But what is long and a tank is not in the wild, so does anyone know how long these fish live in captivity or do you think something else is wrong.?

Sounds like he might be in old age, most apisto males seem to live 2-3 years. Females seem to last a while longer.

Many thanks Matt. When I say he is 18 months old, that's how long its been since I bought him. He was already about 1.5 inches long and fully coloured when I got him so he could have been anything from 6 months old already. I will keep a close eye on him and water stats etc. Just a shame really think he is a great fish, but I guess when your time is up!!!!
