Sorted out the betta situation. So now I have a 20g with..
6 cories.

Sooo, what else to put in it? I really want some girly bettas. And I wouldn't mind some bronze cories or similar. So with the amount I want I'll have
10 cories
4 f/m bettas

What else can I put in? Cories aren't particularly messy and will eat any food left on the bottom. I want a 'centerpice' fish. I was thinking an ABF, although will the bettas nip it?

The betta may nip at the ABF... then one day the ABF will bite the betta in half, or even swallow it whole.
ABFs are highly predatory and have deceptively large mouths.

Thought so. Just wondered. I want something similar, a largish top and mid dweller that won't hide too much. And won't get nipped.

Erm...I'm sure you know that you can't put male bettas together.
LOL. Yes I know that, I have two and ones so violent he flares and attacks the cories  . What I'll probably do is on Saturday, go to the lfs and get -
4 bronze cories (although I might accidentaly get Undulatus again :D) and 1 fm betta. This will amount to roughly a tenner (I have too much change at the moment...). Then next time get 3 females. Then get whatever else I'm having.

negative four cories? howzat work? :p

i'd hold off on buying one female first. its recommended for most aggressive fish to add them all simultaneously. that way no one has a head start on establishing territory and claiming the tank.

True. I'll just get some plants or something, or if I can pursuade my sister to have one of the hamsters in her room (or my shelves can support the weight) I'll go with an extra 3g and another betta... . I'm sure I can pursuade my parents to let me get another. Although they can hardly stop me if its not got a 'You must be 16 to buy fish' thing.

EDIT- Off topic, but what are the average dimensions for 5 and 10 gallon tanks?

average diamentions for a 5 gallon tank is about 14x8x11 and for 10 gallons i have no idea!

Doesn't matter now, I asked on live chat. And TBH I doubt I'm going to get anything bigger than a 3g in unless I do some major shifting around. Also, think I'll mention my birthdays coming up, so if anyone can think of anything I should ask for (lol I might try my luck with asking for a zebra plec :p) put it down. Apart from tanks, alas and alack, I have no room :(

Ok... I've moved back the new betta to the 20g. He is much happier. In the 3g he just layed on the bottom all day. HOWEVER.... He seems pretty laid back. Obviously if anything happened I can move/divide him. So... What can go with him now? I'm still going with the cories, so what else can I put? Like... a school of the non-nippiest tetras mebbe? If I can manage the room, I can still get a gourami hex tank, so thats no probbo. So I'm still after a centerpiece, he would be it but he doesn't really stand out.
