Ok so I got 3 black mollys yesterday and since last night they have been happily swimming about in my tank, along with the 7 neons and 3 xray tetras. Had a look at the tank tonight to find I have a tiny wee baby black

I have only had fish in my tank for about 3 weeks and have never had fish before, so feeling slightly out of my depth with this one.

It is sunday evening, so not much I can do in buying anything to help the little guy out, but any suggestions on what I should do just now and what I should do when I can get to the lfs tomorrow after work?

I know I am unlikely to keep him alive, but need to at least give it a go!!

Thanks for any advice

:)

seperate the fry or they will eat eat'n for sure.
you can either place then in a 5-10gal tank with proper filtering and heater, or buy a tank divider.
you can try adding plants and coverage but they might eventually get eat'n if they pop out at the wrong time

:)

same as above but u say u had the tank set up for only 3 weeks did u cycle the tank first as if u have high amonia and nitrites then the fry probably wont survive anyways because of tank conditions

If there is only one check the filter for some more because I thought I only had one then checked the filter and I had 5!

For tonight separate them by putting a little tank water in a tuperware pot and then the fry and float the pot on the top of the water then tomorrow buy a hatchery or breeder net from a local store.

Feed them crushed up flakes for now. Liquifry for livebearers can be bought and also baby brine shrimp.

Good luck!

I raised livebearer fry in buckets set up with air driven filters. If you keep on top of the water changes - every second day, NO exceptions - this can be made to work. All of mine have been brought up on fish food flakes crushed very finely. Mix them with a little water to make them sink. If you only have one, you could just break the edge off one flake and use that.
