i have a 150 litre tank . without fish as im still cycling ... i have a 4 year old too so i want something interesting and playful , i also want colourful but not too big and a wide variation of stuff, i love guppys , cichlids , zebra danios , gourami , tetras , siameese fighters ... my tank has three bulbs so lots of light one orange tone and 2 that appear to be green ish . live plants 3 rooted tropica ones and 4 cutting type ones ... any suggestions guys oh my tank is all natural looking ie bogwood slate natural pebbles and neutral gravel

Welcome to the forums :)

Sounds like a lovely tank thats starting off pretty well! Unfortunatly (as you probably realise) the fish you like will not all go together. Most cichlids do not go with the other fish you mentioned, danios do not go with bettas and more :p

For a 150L (40G US), I'd go for
6 Corydoras (whatever sort you like, preferable 1 sort or 2 times 3)
a shoal of harlequins (around 7)
a shoal of cardinals (around 7)
some guppies (2f on every m, about 6 in total I think)
1 bristlenose plec

Or you could not get guppies and get a shoal of zebra danios (around 6). I'd definatly not get less than 6 zebra danios though, and not get them when you get guppies seeing as they might be nippy toward the males tail.

perhaps a banjo catfish as well, seeing as my cousins absolutely love my banjos ... but that would be pushing your limit

It will have colour, quite a lot of stuff going around (Specially with the cories) and be a lovely tank if you ask me :)

You could also concider rummy nose tetras, always a lovely addition to a community tank :)

Good luck setting up the tank!

--Edit--

Thought I'd let you know what I used to have in my 40G :p (Its changed with births, deaths, bigger tanks etc :p )
8 zebra danios
5 cardinals
5 ember tetras
5 black neons
3 peppered corydoras

msot of the fish you mentioned are suitable.

However, don't keep more than one male betta or keep betta and guppies because they don't get along. Also, african cichlids need a species tank.

My lfs does long finned neon rosy barbs - they are not too big, very bright and very active so a shoal might look good in a 150l :)

HTH

I think that if you're getting zebra danios, definatly them. They'll be the hardiest of all. If you're going for something with guppies in it, then they'll be the hardiest :) (seeing as I'd not mix them personally, but some people might)

i would try a small semi aggressive tank. i have a 55 semi aggressive an dlove it.

I would try

2- Rainbow cichlids. I have one and it is the most personable and friendly fish i have ever owned

2- Angelfish. Because every kid loves angelfish

6 cories - Yeah im pretty sure they can be kept with these fish.

1- Big gourami.

i think it would be a nice tank and the fish listed are all personable adn friendly

Rainbow fishes are great, good selection of colours available and very active. great for children to watch. do a google search on : Home of the rainbow fish.
look at the amazing colours on these species of fish. ;)

i was talking rainbow cichlid. It is in the fish index in NW cichlids

well, 40 gallons seems like a good size for africans. If you really want something colorful and playful for your kid, Africans are the way to go.
