hey just some little questions because i'm going in to the lps in a little bit to get some fish for my empty 10gal. i was wondering about what fish would be reccomened because i want something energenitic and probably a couple of them to form a mini shcool. so a small energenitic schooling fish? i know of lots but i was wondering if anything comes to mind as a all out "great" fish. or an interesting fish that's different from the mainstream guppies. not that theres anything wrong with them.... just tyring to mix it up a little.

next is about plants..... i know this could be in the other topics but it's not that in depth. i have a planted 25 gal and the plants seem to be decaying as the new leaves are sprouting. i just recently got them and they wern't in too good shape so i got about 4 chunks of it for $6. they were dying then and are dying now turning Dark Green but there are lots of smaller Bright Green leaves that are now visible , emurging from the dead. all i am wondering is , is this bad for the plant to have dying leaves on it(may signify a lack or excess of something in my water) or more importantly is this any danger to my fish having some decaying plant leaves in there with them ( may give off some gases or unbalance my tanks levels) if so is there any easy solution with out up rooting what they have already and placing them some where else for the time being? thanks alot ! be sure to reply fast about the fish if possible !

Hi, tetras are a nice schooling fish. Some are hardier than others. Neons are not very suitable for a new tank. I have just put some Cardinal Tetras in a new tank, that is not generally advisable but it has been a week and they are all ok.Don't know much about plants although I have real plants. It is luck whether they last or not for me. Remove the dead leaves they are bad for your tank. I am writing this quickly so I hope I am not mistaken in anything. I am sure about the Cardinals they are very pretty and grow to 2". I have a shoal of ten. They sometimes die quickly because they are partway through their life cycle when they are caught. Hope I am in time. :)

From how he wrote it, it sounds like he just has an empty tank sitting around.

wow sorry about that

i just upgraded to my 25 from the 10gal has a loach in it and a minnow of some kind right now... it's been running for about a year.. sorry for the confusion

i'm about to leave so i'll give 5 more min but tetras or neons sound good

ok i guess i'll go now thanks for all the help i'll see what's there but i may not even get any for sure because the selection can be limited so if you have a good idea throw it in because it will benefit someone

Why not go to the shop and look for yourself.....if you dont know what the fish is that you like then come home and research it and if you still want it go back.....the shop isnt going to explode tonight so just have a look?

Yeah just go and look to see what looks good to you then ask us if we think that will over stock the tank or if they are incompatible.

so i came home empty handed, probably for the best.... the reason i wanted an awnser was because i live in the sticks and the nearest fish seller is walmart which is about 1 hour away and the nearest pet store is about 2 hours away and me being a grade 12 teenager i'm studying for my exams now and i rarely get to go in and "Fish Shop" lol!

so on that note i was just eager to see some oppinions on smaller fish and i was going to relay it to my uncle from the store who has had fish since he was a kid and seems to know ALOT about them, so i figured i could make a safe decision.

so i guess next time i will go in and possibly make a purchase AFTER exams and then i can look into it more extensivley. I was just in a rush to get out the door! lol ! soory if i seem mental or something! o well thanks for all the help so far if you have anything else to add, go for it , if not i think i may make a poll just to see the intrest of certain fish . but for me , i'm off to do some more reaserch on the fish! thanks again

I always liked Harlequin Rasboras myself... Matter of fact I think I should get some for my tank. They are definitely different than what you normally see (neons, guppies, etc). They stay fairly small (up to 2"), and are cool looking fish on top of it. A lot hardier than neons too.

For a 10 gallon I think you should aim at something a bit slower than danios; they need at least 20 gals IMO.

Rasboras are a possibility; pygmy rasboras if you can get them even more so.

Pygmy corydoras for the bottom, though they do move over the tank.

Since this tank is cycled and mature, neons would be a good choice; they are slightly smaller than cardinals which might help here. Or black neons (not actually that closely related but similar in style). Or glowlights.

Personally I would keep endlers, a smaller guppy relative.

You might even be able to turn it into a mini Tanganyika (coral sand and shells) and fit in a small family of shelldwellers, though you'd need to do a bit of research.

Hang on, I'm sure there's a pinned topic on 10 gallon tanks.
