hi all

i got my tank set up and declorinated, and as i mentioned before, i could not find any pure ammonia, so i am using fish flakes.

the tank is 168L, how much fish food do you think i should add?

and how long do u think it will take to break down and form ammonia?

thanx all for now

watch this thread as i will be constantly updating it.

P.s ph was 7.6 i thought that was a bit high, so ive added some ph down

will report on ph in a few hours after work

ok so all are welcome to use this thread as a cycling helpcentre sort of thing lol

as i am very new to cycling etc and im sure alot of other people are so this thread could be very helpful

thanx

Hiya. Fish food is better than nothing but ammonia is better for cycling. Where are you from?. I got mine from Homebase (UK).

Leave the pH alone. 7.6 is fine for most all fish and the pH during cycling means nothing. Don't even check the pH until you are completely cycled and have done your water change. Check the pH of your tap water to see what you are working with. Also check the KH of the tap water so you will have a better idea of how stable the pH will be. Almost all fish can adapt to any pH as long as it is STABLE. When you use the chemicals to adjust it, the pH will bounce around too much and cause major problems.

ok well ive just added about 3 - 4 piunches of fish flakes

there just sitting opn the bottom going see through

ive got a heater a fluval mod 3 or sumthin and an airstone in there to help speed up the proceess

what should i do now?
whats the next step?

thanx for the help so far

Add more flakes for the next few days and keep testing the water. Nothing else you can do, just keep watching for the Amonia / Nitrite spikes.
