okay i have a rekord 96 i will be restocking it soon it will have female betta splendens corys swordtail an a krib what plants could i keep i cant get any special equipment to look after the plants neither

It really depends on how much money you want to spend. Have a look over the pinned articles, and let us know how far you want to go into this.

Are you going to add anything to the water to aid the plants growth e.g. co2, liquid fert, substrate etc?

And also, do you know how powerful your current light is, and are you going to upgrade it?

Paul.

i cant realy get much equipment erm dont know the power of the light i might be able to get a few small things to help the plants but i cant get anything big i might just stick to fakes lol

Ah no it's real easy and not too expensive to do a low-tech set up...

You can make a Co2 generator - and liquid fertilisers aren't too expensive.

Trust me, once you've succesfully grown an aquatic plant, you'll want to grow an aquatic forest.

It gives the hobby another level of enjoyment, other than caring for your fish.

Regards,

Paul.

i know but i just have no idea about it, could some body please give me a list of equipment i would HAVE to have and i can try an figure out if i can afford it plus i still have no idea what type of plants i should be lookin at names of suggestions would be nice then i can google them thanks in advance

Personally all I think you HAVE to have is a light.. :D My low tech nano does fine.. (although I think thats pure luck) I do chuck a bit of liquid fertiliser in there occasionally.

ok number 1 liquid fetiliser lol
i could do that no problem now then can someone please give some plant suggestions and give me thoughts on my shortlist of plans so far
red hygro

ok ive scared myself after just a short look through a book containin a small section on aquatic plants i fear i have been bitten by the aquatic plant bug *ow* lol so what do people think of them ideas and any other sugestions
p.s i wont be gettin all them plants

here is a very vague idea of the equipment u will need for the two different options

cheap, less growth:
light, at least 1 watt per gallon. you want to be using fluro's, wether or not they are compact is your choice but do make sure they are for plant growth.

some trace fertilizer such as seacheam flourish

substrate(optional but definatley recommended). you have many choices here, two popular products are eco-complete and ada. also some cheaper choices such as laterite, catcus compost..etc

more expensive, way better growth:
light, at least 2 watt per gallon. see above

method of co2 injection, pressurized or diy. pressurized is more expensive but more stable and needed for larger tanks. in a smaller tank you can get away with a DIY system.

fertilizers. you need something that will cover N-P-K and something that will cover your trace nutrients. there are two options here, liquid which will cost more but premade or dry ferts which are MUCH cheaper but you have to mix them yourself.

substrate. see above

ah well suppose i cant have plants i simply cant get all that equipment i cant get a new light an i dont know how many watts mine is and i am not replacing my gravel

All you have to do with a low-tech set-up like you want is add gravel supplement tabs, some liquid fertilizer, maybe make a DIY co2, and turn your lights on!

ok i can do all but the co2 thing i will adding a bubble filter to the tank as wellas the main filter (a juwel filter) and then i intend to have a go at plants so could people PLEASE give me plant suggestions
