Hi all, my unit arrived from ebay, yay! I'm using the Spiro-glass with it to ensure maximum CO2 diffusion.

I've just set it up using the mix pinned to this forum, but with a little less of each item, to hopefully prevent any risk of overflow.

But I do have a few (probably obvious) questions.

!. is it OK to leave the unit generating CO2 at night?

I have an air pump, on low in the tank mainly for water movement, but also because I wasnt going to rely on plants, until the CO2 unit arrived.

Its not doing anything 'yet' (only beenset up 10 mins :p

2. Ive positioned it near where the bubbles of the air pump stir up the water, because the out flow o fthe filter in my system is very gentle, is this OK?

3. What is the real likelihood of overflow? and is it a case of - wake up in the morning dead fish. Or partial water change, no damage done.

4. I've left some slack on the tubing, to hopefully take up any possible overflow as much as is reasonable, I know I can use an overflow bottle, but that can come later.

THanks all!

I have an air pump, on low in the tank mainly for water movement, but also because I wasnt going to rely on plants, until the CO2 unit arrived.!!! If it is rippling the surface, then it wants to come out. the filter gently moving the water is all you really want or you will lose CO2

Its not doing anything 'yet' (only beenset up 10 mins :p Have a look after 1 hour. will probs take a day to get itself sorted when it is new

3. What is the real likelihood of overflow? and is it a case of - wake up in the morning dead fish. Or partial water change, no damage done.Nevere experienced it and I always use ½ teaspoon yeast

Thanks alot for the quick answers!

Pity there is no way to combine the air pump and the CO2 unit, the fish do love swimming in it :>

Ah well the hoplos seem unusualy attracted to the diffuser :p won leave it alone!

TIP make sure the ladder's suckers are pushed flat to the glass, leaving minimal gap behind, because believe me its a gas chamber and 5mm wide fish somehow find a way through the 2mm gap.

I have had danios trapped behind them before, because they chase each other a lot and one darts behind just to 'lose' his pursuer and often can't get back out, until I release 1 sucker.

I would think if they got stuck there for too long it would not do them much good, a bit like a gas chamber.

If you push the suckers from the centre so they stick flat, the gap is so small, only fry can get behind, but they being so small can also get out.

Cheers Im not using the ladder (its a bit bulky for my tastes) :p I'm using a Spiro-Glass difuser. But I know what you meaqn about dumb fish! I just had to carefully reposition the difuse to top one idiot cory from continually getting stuck between it and the glass of the tank!
