Hi everyone.

ok lets start from the beginning. I have a juwel rekord 96 litre, with 1x18 watt flourescent tube(soon to have a reflector). My tank is full of horrid plastic plants so i decided i wanted to have all real plants instead.I have worked out that my wpg is 0.72. I have discussed this in other posts and worked out (i think) that the following plants should be fine with 0.72wpg, no c02, liquid fertilizer and medium sized gravel as a substrate.

java moss
java fern
anubias nana
vallisneria
amazon sword

In the other posts someone suggested the T6 tubes and reccomended a site called aqua essentials. I have a juwel tank which i don't think are standard sizes. the reflectors tofit my 18w light tube in my tank are 59 cm long and the closest T6 tube is 24'' long or 61cm. will the tube go further into the hood? - e.g. one cm at each side to make a 61 cm tube. But aqua essentials say and this is a quote''All the T6 lighting tubes are designed to fit standard lighting units but in particular Juwel lighting systems where the "Brushing Set" (sold separately) allows for a water tight seal''. The description for the brushings set is
''Rubber washers that fit snugly around the T6 light tube making them water resistant.Designed for the Juwel lighting system in particular'' Does this mean that it would fit in my lighting hood? Has anyoine got a T6 lighting tube in a juwel aquarium? They are meant to give out 40 percent more light than the standard T8 ones, so i thought these might help my plants grow better.

Also i wanted to make a carpet of java moss for the front of my aquarium. Woul nylon thread be ok for this? Also i red the pinned post about making a carpet out of riccia and java moss, and for the riccia it said to leave it floating in a clear plastic tub with aquarium water in it for a week. It then said after a week had passed you will have twice as much riccia as you started with. Could the same be done with java moss?

Ok nearly finished now. Because my tank is still full of plastic plants does it really matter how i go about changing the plants over? Should i do it bit by bit(e.g. a few p;lants at a time) or would it be ok to swap them round all at once, leaving room for growth obviously.

If you can answer just one question i would be grateful still.

Thanks everyone.

Can't believe you are hurrying us up after only 28 minutes. lol

anyway. What I would suggest is you e-mail Richard at AE your tank specs and tell him which type of bulb you want and then he will tell you which one fits. He isn't going to sell you one that doesn't fit because he won't want to have to refund or arrange all the hassle of replacement etc.

Secondly It doesn't matter what the reflectors length is. A reflector is rarely the same length as the tube because with the reusable end caps and rubber seals etc the reflector tends to be shorter than the tube so that it doesn't overlap the end caps and melt / degrade them etc.

Therefore get the reflectors to fit your tubes and not to fit the width of your hood. There may be a difference of a few inches which can mean the difference between water tight and non water tight.

I would've suggested it better to get the Arcadia ones from Pets at Home for £5 each as they clip on the tube and are much more flexible that way. only problem is they have T8 clips which you would then use a paperclip bent into a C shape to pull the clips into the T6.

Send Richard a message. He will reply because that is his business. You are much more likely to get top info regarding planted technical specs than from the users as he has access to all of it. Us users can give opinions and reviews on only the items we have or have had. Hes an honest chap so don't worry.

moss is a slow grower, Riccia is a prolific grower. After 1 week trying the same method as with Riccia there would be a little growth but being so close to the light I would suggest there would be a lot of algae covering it.

As for plants I would suggest getting a cheap collection of plants off ebay 100 plants+. Pay in the region of £10 for it. You will get some that are non aquatic but thats no worry. Bang them into the tank and post up a picture and we will tell you which ones to bin. Then spend a month or 2 getting used to growing whatever you have. You may find some plants in there that will survive in your setup that we have not listed. After a while and after a little learning / confidence you can then spend some money on the plants you want swapping them over one by one weekly etc until you are left with what you want to keep. Always better for your first attempt to learn slowly and find out what you are doing rather than spend £100 on superb specimens only for them to be algae trees 3 weeks later.

where it says all T6 fits T8 ballasts, that means they are all the same diameter, not lenght so i doubt yours will fit, i agree with Andy, just email him he usually gets back within 24hr.s
