Crap! I think the newbie screwed up again!! I didn't realize that I had to keep my water temps very close when I am doing 25% PWC's! I thought I wasn't supposed to use my hot water so I have been using only my cold water and letting it sit on my counter for a few hours to warm up. I think my water temp has been unstable and I think I am seeing the beginning of fin rot in my fish. ;0( I am not sure but I think I am seeing slightly torn edges on my Shubunkin and I read that they can be sensitive to the water temp instability..

Should I be using a heater? At what temp? My water temp is 72. I looked online and it says goldfish usually adapt fine to the cold water... I am just not sure what to do..

Also, should I start treating the fin rot? I read that some have had success with Maracyn-two. Will that hurt my tanks cycle??

Thank you so much for any help. I called my local pet store but they were of NO help what so ever!

Finrot is mainly down to bad water quality.
How many gallons is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

You should try to match temp to tank, not more than 2 degrees either way.
