Hoping someone could give some advice.

I am currently treating my tank / glolight tetras for whitespot.

They seem to have lots of salt size white grains on there fins, i immediately took this as a sign of whitespot.

I am currently treating with interpet no. 6.

Its now day four and i've added the second dose, there is still a couple of whitespot but the fish seem to be doing better, out and about now - they were rather tired looking before and always hiding.

The next issue is i've now noticed a couple of the fish have really tattered/ragged looking fins. One of them is particularly bad looking and there is a definate white stuff and the fins look rather cloudy looking compared to the others.

Dont know if i've mis diagnosed them, but i dont think so. It looks like they may have both finrot and whitespot.

Some other details, its a 15 gallon tank with 4 harlequins (all healthy) and 6 glolight tetras.

0 ammonia, 0 Nitrite. and around 20 nitrate.

tank has been set up around 5 weeks (fishless cycled first, took 2 weeks).

Had the fish for around 3 weeks.

My question is do i finish the whitespot treatment? this will take another week and then treat for finrot.
would i do a large water change between the treatements?

I should say i dont have a hospital tank, but i'm trying to get one - i know not much good for the current situation though.

This tropical fishkeeping is really hard going :-(

No they do have whitespot, and finrot is very common on top of whitespot, increase aeration as you need to with the high temp and med.
There is a whitespot med on the market where you can mix a bacterial med in.

eSHa Exit
Anti Whitespot Treatment

eSHa EXIT is an effective treatment against all 'Spot' (Ich) diseases. EXIT also cures Velvet.

EXIT can be used in combination with 'eSHa 2000 - Fungus, Finrot and Bacteria Treatment'. This combination provides you with a broadly effective tool to treat most diseases your fish will encounter.

Acts fast against Whitespot and other Spot Parasites
Safe for use with sensitive tropical fish
Treats 1000 litres. (220 gal.)

Standard Dosage per 100 litres (22 gals) :

Day 1 : 20 drops
Day 2 : 10 drops
Day 3 : 10 drops
20ml completes a three day course for an 1000 litre (220 gallon) aquarium

Ok thanks for that :good:

I didnt know about that esha medication.

My problem now is i'm already treating with interpet whitespot, on the second dose now.

Could i add finrot treatment whilst treating with interpet?

If not should i wait a few days - do a large water change - maybe add a carbon sponge to help remove the whitepsot treatment, then remove sponge and treat for finrot?

oh and theres plenty of oxygen in the water, fluval 3 plus filter and interpet av3 pump.

Thanks again for the help

Ross :D

Interpet says not to mix there meds, i would wait till the whitespot has gone, as the whitespot med might help with the fins if its not to bad, good luck.
