WELL... you all told me that i needed more than the 1 kuhli that we adopted with the tank... so i did, i bought 3 more with the possiblity of getting more come payday! Came home, acclimatised them, released them, went searching for the original kuhli so he could meet his pals and he is NOWHERE to be seen, searched under all ornaments, plants, big pebbles etc, under the filter, just about everywhere moveable, behind the tank etc, he is nowhere to be seen! Any ideas? lol! We have also had a neon go missing (we think!) recently but there's nothing in the tank to eat them :\

Quite possible that that he's buried himself. We had one that survived a couple of tank breakdowns because he liked to bury himself. He even survived the gravel being swished with hot and cold water because we thought we had no fish left - twice!! So don't write the little guy off yet :D

Well i did wonder whether they bury themselves... i think it's because i disturbed him this morning to move a plant lol. The 3 babies are well and truely settling themselves down lol :)

He found his maties :D :D :D lol! Must have buried himself :)

Mine have never burrowed, but I know that they can. Checking the filter is also a good idea when you can't find a kuhli. Keep any intakes covered well for this reason!

I'm thrilled to say that I have kuhlis that are out and about 24/7. I have a few tips that I like to hand out for this!

- More kuhlis. If you think you have enough, get a few more. While kuhlis aren't necessarily schooling fish, they are very social. They enjoy the company of one another immensely and will be much more comfortable in the tank if they have lots of friends. I would personally consider 6 to be the bare minimum. Also, you may or may not have luck mixing different Pangio species in terms of them hanging out together. I've heard it go both ways.

- More hiding spots. If you think you have enough, make a few more. It sounds counter intuitive, but the more hiding spots you provide them with, the more you'll see them. They know where every safe place is and thus feel more comfortable being out in the open, knowing that they can retreat to safety whenever they deem necessary.

- More plants. If you think you have enough, get a few more. Kuhlis love draping themselves in plants and scavenging around them. Floating plants are excellent as well. If you can, arrange plants in a manner that creates an area of lots of shade from tank lights. I prefer live plants. I'm not sure that I would go with plastic here, as they could very easily cut themselves. Silk may be alright as long as all wire ends are tucked in.

- Water changes, water changes, water changes! They love fresh water. Nothing brings on the kuhli dance like a like a 50% water change.

Really good suggestions :good: I must say, my 7 kuhlis feel much happier now that they are in a bigger group and I always see at least 3-4 out, when the bloodworm pellets get chucked in they are all having a feast and a dance. Great fish!

they a harty little guys too, since i got my first batch of khulii 4-5 years ago they have survived 5 tank transfers (3 due to leaking tanks, one and intuitive move i brought them back upstairs because i missed them, and one just giving them more space and gravel)
mine have also never seemed to like to burrow under the sand, but they do like to dig, they are always digging under my orniments just to hide under them. even if you think they can't or won't get into an orniment, mine always seemed to find away.
i have had a group 8, i am currently down to 5 hoping to pick up more once my lff picks up the striped ones.

they are great little fish, always fun to watch, and i whole heartly agree with the sentiments stated above.
