So APPARENTLY I bought a pregnant molly. I woke up to find 15 little guys swimming around my tank. I was wondering why she was acting strange...

I dont know what to do, my tank is still going through the rough patch of cycling, and I do not have the money to buy a little home for them. Should I put them in a vase? Leave them in?

I want to keep them alive...they are so cute  But my 10 gallon cant handle that many fish once they grow! And im worried the ammonia will kill the poor guys.

Advice??? :S

I would suggest taking the fry to your LFS?

Ive not yet experienced this, but my Guppy is currently pregnant and I have no cash either to go and buy a fry trap...

So I will have to leave them in the tank.

-_-

I'm still a newbie, but hopefully some of the more experienced people will guide you in the right direction...

Leave them in. They won't all survive anyway. I don't think the lfs will take fry that young but I may be wrong.

The best thing you can do for them is to check water stats for ammonia and nitrite daily and do water changes to keep the levels at zero for ammonia and nitrite. If you can afford to, get a small bottle of Seachem Prime, available in the UK to use as your water conditioner. It neutralises ammonia and nitrite and you only need to add 0.25 of a ml per 10 litres of water that you change.

If the Seachem keeps the ammonia and nitrites at zero, still do twice weekly water changes of 25% and your baby mollies will grow with the addition of crushed flake 3 times a day. Daily water changes are even better but you may not have time. When the babies are around half an inch long the lfs should take them.

Im a little scared to do water changes now...I wouldnt want to suck them up into the graval vac lol. I guess il just have to be really...REALLY cautious about it now hehe.

Unfortunatly, something happend overnight and im at zero dollars currently. I dont even have a test kit yet. Iv been meaning to get the API Freshwater master kit but its $40.00 here (Was going to buy one today until I woke up and saw -$20 in my account -_- ). Im using Aqua Plus at the moment for my conditioner, I dont think they sell Seachem Prime here in Canada.

*Heavy sigh*. I hope I can keep most of them alive through this...and il give them away to my LFS when they are big enough. *Crosses fingers*

Thank you both for the advice though!

Put a piece of fine net across the bottom of your gravel vac ( Piece of an old pair of stockings/tights/knee highs) and secure with elastic band. Then you can't suck the babies up when gravel vaccing. :good:

If you haven't any test kits I'd just change a bit of water daily and add water conditioner you are using to fresh water. That way they'll have the best chance.

Good luck

how are the little ones doing? success with the vac? :)

They are all doing fine. I did a water change, with no netting on the vac. At first I was scared...but I made to sure keep it under the gravel line as much as I could...trying to scare them at the same time so they swam away from it. I feel kinda bad, but they are all alive and counted for :)

About 7 of them are being rebels swimming near the top of the tank...the rest are huddled in the back. I just can't wait for them to grow up so I can find them homes/give the rest to my LFS. Maybe il keep 1 or 2 :)

my guppy just dropped the other day and i did a waterchange and i sucked up a little guy, i felt bad but was glad that i had my bucket. he is still doing fine.
