Hi again. :hyper:

Which type of filter wpould you all reccomend for my planted tank? I know carbon is not good what about a bio-wheel? I really don't want to get into a complex filter just one to hang off the tank. I found a marineland 400 bio-wheel filter would this be okay or too much of a good thing. :p as in too much filtration.

Or do I even need a filter? with all the plants in there.

Thanks yet again. (I'm alomost there :D )

just one to hang off the tank

Personally i would choose an external canister filter. They are not at all complicated but they work fantastically.

I would look into the Eheim and Fluvel range of canister filters and order online or even ex-catalogue models...you can pick them up cheapish.

You have the potentiol to have a really nice tank, don`t go spoiling it by boshing a internal in there or hanging one off the side.

Good Luck....choice is yours as always!!

Hi,

Have a look at the Tetratec EX range of canister filters. They are relatively new but well worth a look. I have got the EX700 and it is great, really really quiet, easy to mantain too.

Regards,

Rich

I use external Fluvel 2 on my tanks and have no problems with plant growth :hyper:

Cheapish in what price range is cheapish.... Will I need to drill my tank for this. Sorry I had marine for about 6 years and EVERYTHING you had to do was complicated so i worry about that. I can't drill the tank and I don't have a wholeee lot of stand space.

Anyone got some links of complete filter sets?

no drilling needed. dont know on proce range. i use 4 fluval cannister filters on 3 differant tanks. i have nuthing bad to say about flual. others do though.

Personally i`d choose Eheim, lol but thats because i use one and my grandad used one years ago before me. They have never let us down.

I forget the size of your tank, i must have asked this twice!? sorry!

Obviously the size of your tank will determine what filter to buy and like ridewake said, no drilling is required!!! You literally shove two pipes in the water one to suck water out of your tank into the filter and one to throw it back in.

I`d say you won`t have to pay more than £80 if you look on the internet. My 2213 was £50 for my 20gallon, but i think your is bigger so you`ll need a bigger filter.
If you are prepared to pay a little more money, am i not right in saying you can now get one with an internal heater so you have no need for a heater inside your tank?? You`ll need one anyway, so its worth spending the extra on the filter which includes one. I have to admit, i haven`t seen them myself but i`m sure i have heard people talk about them.

Good Luck

Chris

Hi Chameleongeekgrl,

I would also recommend the Tetra EX range for external filters, they are cheaper than Ehiem and almost as good, very reliable, not had any problmes with mine at all.

If you can't use one of these have you seen the new Tetra Easy Crystal Internals, these look good and have some of the advantages of an external (i.e. large surface area, biological media) but are internal and look easy to maintain?

See: http://www.tetra.de/index.cfm?uuid=F9663E2...F5B&o_lang_id=2

Hope this helps and no I don't work for Tetra (Just realise I sound like a salesman)

Hay, camilaingirly

The think to remember is that having poor filtration can lead to algae problems and poor water clarity and poor water circulation among other problems.

You get what you pay for and in my mind I allways try and stretch to the best model available to me, like i say you get what you pay for.

With Craynerds help I decided to get a Eheim 2126 Professional II Freshwater Thermo. So back to the old plasma mill. I give plasma to make most of my aquarium purchases so I really do pay through my blood for this stuff. Thank you for all your suggestions. I have water in my tank and the lights on. I can't wait to beable to show you all some pictures of what it looks like. :hey:

Again I'm glad I chose this site everyone here is great!
